tj-photo_040216Currently a Teaching Fellow and PhD candidate in Religion at Baylor University, I study the historical roots of the contemporary Emerging Church Movement, looking specifically at trends among American evangelicals over the past half-century. Other research interests include missional church practices, the intersection of religion and popular culture, and the recent rise of the self-described “Spiritual But Not Religious.”

In addition to my scholarly work, I have been an active participant in the Emerging Church for over a decade as a cohort leader, emerging church planter, and the national Cohorts Coordinator for Emergent Village. Originally from the upper Midwest, I currently reside in Austin, TX where I serve as an adjunct instructor for Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest.
